Hi,

On a duel Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2670 v2 @ 2.50GHz server with 250G memory how many general office desktops would people expect to run for a VDI deployment, desktops used for word/excel/access etc? not power users but constant office use?

10, 20, 40, 60, 100?

I am just curious what is the average Real world ratios.

cheers

We have very similar hardware with double the RAM and run about 60/host. Most VMs have 1 vCPU and 2 GB RAM, others have 2 and 4 respectively. There's plenty of grunt left.

Also depends if these are linked clones that are set to provision on demand and delete on logoff. That way you're not going to have a ton of inactive machines just sitting there consuming resources.

Depends on a lot of other things too - levels of overcommit, high watermark, type of OS, resources allocated to guests, HA levels and redundancy requirements, optimizations performed or not etc..
