Single root i/o virtualization change ip???

Hi, i have a question about single root i/o virtualization that i would like to know without any article references because I've read quite a few of them now and kind of have a grasp on it but wanted some clarity from someone who may have implemented it.
I understand its a way of increasing throughput to the VM and bypassing the virtual switch.
Does this mean that it uses a different IP address, one that is not assigned to the virtual switch? It's still a bit confusing but someone explaining it here may help without forwarding me onto more articles haha.
