Could someone explain this diagram?

I just can't seem to figure out the significance of the placement for the lan specs diagram. Is it suppost to be superimposed on top of the OSI model next to it?

Ethernet spans the physical and the data link layer, hence also the 2 sub layers (LLC and MAC) of the data link layer.
IEEE 802.3 spans the physical layer and the MAC sublayer of the data link layer.

Yeah I'm pretty solid on the information in that link. I was just wanting to make sure that it was intended to be superimposed to show position in relation to the OSI. Didn't want to miss anything.
Thanks for the reply.
