PEAP suite question??

Hi, does anyone know regarding PEAP where AES comes into the process. For example:
When a users tries to log into a network via VPN, the VPN is using SSTP and PEAP with MsCHAPv2 for authentication, so when PEAP is trying to create a tunnel with the client, does it use the SSL encryption suite on the server machine to determine WHAT algorithms to use in this process? And once it has done this, does it them create the key exchange using RSA for example along with AES for the encryption (the normal encryption process basically?). When these have been estrablished, MsCHAPv2 comes into play and sends the username and password over in MsCHAPv2 form in the secure tunnel?
Is that the process for it?
Thanks for the help.
