Can anyone recommend a book for basic server knowledge?
G.O.A.T
I am hoping I have placed this in the correct section. I was wondering can anyone recommend a book that can essentially give me basic server knowledge? just being able to install a Windows server OS and going over the basic config and functions would be enough.. I looked into the for dummies series but it appears based on the reviews this is not a worth choice.
Thanks in advance

I am not looking for a book on 2012r2 right now but if I was I would start with these two and gauge their usefulness from there. Even if you are not looking for a certification, the certification exam prep books should have a lot of good information as far as the general config options go.

Im a newbie here... but anything MCSA related will help you understand servers... It really helped me understand the software part of it. I love the hardware part of it aka racking and moving physical servers, but I learned the most from it by reading MCSA books...

Maybe one of the older network+ book the current one is more network devices now. Or maybe the server+ book.

In addition to the "Mastering..." books... this is a general computing books that sounds awesome:

In case you decide to ditch Windows, check out 'Servers for Hackers' by Chris Fidao or 'Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Server: Administration and Reference' by Richard Petersen
