Hi,
I want to have a little look at 3D modelling and creating interactive environments.
So as I see it this is a kind of 2 step process
1. create a selection of models
2. put them together in to a scene that a user can move through.
This is for biological systems so i would want to eventualy be able to create models such as

and

I do have access to a lot of microscope data to use to base models on, but I am not so concerned about the detail of the models I just want some thing that I can make a proof of concept model on. So looking for some thing to lean the basics "quickly" not the most powerful application out there.
I sure I could easily find the above, but more importantly what application could I use to put models together in to a scene so I can then "walk around" and potential have items moving and reacting to the user?
Would I be looking at some thing like a game engine for this part?
Any pointers, ideas appreciated, as you can tell I know little about 3D modelling and don't want to end up a master of the trade, but get to know enough that I can demonstrate some ideas to the bosses.
Cheers.
