Volunteer work on a resume?

I volunteer at least once or twice a month and mentioned it in an interview in response to the what do you do outside of work question. The interviewer was baffled why I would not include it on a resume even if it is not related to my field of work. In some cases it is, but the work it involves is just repetitive of what my past experience entails... Anyone do this or have an opinion one way or another?

It helps you stand out in a competitive job market!!! -

danny069 Member Posts: 1,025 ■■■■□□□□□□Volunteering is a good thing especially in a world where a lot of people don't. I can see if you can't fill a one page resume to include volunteer work then I would include it, other than that, you can add it to your linkedin if you have one, and put that link on your resume. If your resume is a full one page, and it comes up during the conversation, then so be it. It does not have to be on your resume if you don't want it to be. I would put it on there if my resume does not fulfill one page.I am a Jack of all trades, Master of None
