Not so much certifications but....

is it possible to run freebsd inside of a vm? I want to virtualise my freenas (and maybe change to nas4free as to use less system resources) server and have it run alongside windows to play my videos/music in jriver rather than be forced to use plex which i have found to be total junk

I run freenas in my lab so yes, it it totally possible to run it as a VM. If I remember correctly there is even a OVA to deploy it automagically.

Ya i had freenas running on a VM in my lab as well. It's very doable and didn't require any special setup.

I've virtualized Freenas, OpenFiler and Nas4Free. All have worked well.
I stuck with OpenFiler first as it used the least resources. I now have a physical Nas4Free box as I needed more storage and performance.
