Internship through state college?

Anyone gotten a good internship through their college? Or did you have to find your own?
Might be hard for me to land a job with no previous work experience in IT so was thinking of going this route. I tried looking for internships online, but found none in my area. Wondering if my state college would have some.
Asking here first because well, I'm pretty sure I will need to go to main campus (1 hour drive + 5 dollars parking) renew my ID (been a decade, more$?) etc just to check what they have.
