Need help/ Security Clearance

I'm about to apply for a clearance. I've looked over the SF86 and everything seems okay. The problem I'm having is that I talk to a girl from Malaysia from a game we play. We talk quite frequently. Will this effect my clearance?

It will affect your clearance if you don't put it down and they find out about it because it will look like you are hiding something.

Honestly, they look more into your credit then anything else as long as you don't have a direct relation to a terrorist organization or sympathizer. Never been arrested prior vet and I was denied over a 7 year old judgment on my credit report. Sorry, slightly bitter, but seriously as long as your credit is ok and you should be good.

honesty. when i went through mine the interviewer told me had just finished one for a guy that was born in another country and had visited over 10 countries in the last 2 years. i don't know if he was ultimately approved but he just mentioned what a nightmare the interview was,
my interview was about 30 minutes. i have led a pretty boring life...lol

Going through the wait period myself, I didn't get my interim from I assume was a financial issue. The company is being very good though and hasn't rescinded the offer and letting the investigation continue. Only advice, as stated above, list every thing they ask for.

What companies are hiring you guys without an active security clearance and then paying to get you one?
Every job I look at requires an active clearance already.
I previously had a TS:SCI in the air force but that is long expired.

as far as i know you cannot get one on your own. you have to get hired and be sponsored by the hiring company to go through the process

Yes that is correct, you cannot just go get a SC on your own. You have to need it for a job and be sponsored, I am just wondering how all of these people are finding companies that are paying the money to get them a SC.
    Lucky I guess.

When I was working as a defense contractor, they used the clearance I got from when I was in the service. My clearance is now expired and I'm concerned about getting another one because my fiancee is from Vietnam and I've met several trips there and regularly talk to several members of her family both here and in Vietnam.

Is it online only or do you know her personally? Try to put it down, either way. Just be honest & straightforward about it.

I got the clearance about 2006, left the air force in August 2007 so it has been expired for a good while.

Depending on the sensitivity of the clearance the most they would be asking long term would be to report back any conversations you may have with her. As long as she doesn't try to introduce you to people outside the game or outright "jackpot" you, you should be safe. Just keep things game related and understand DIS may want to get a bit more intrusive into the conversation.

Have you ever discussed getting a clearance with anyone in or out of game that could be a foreign national? Career goals, etc.? These are the things that foreign service officers or FSO's look for in recruiting future "contacts". Simply be aware of your conversations and what your career aspirations may be with strangers, particularly on the Internet. It will just save you alot of grief.

The clearance is looking for trustworthiness based on: honesty, financial stability, and allegiance to the United States. List her as a foreign contact to show honesty. Be prepared to explain your relationship with her in the in-person interview. They will want to know if you do business with her or anyone she knows. They'll look for sympathy for her home country in your social media and travel records. The scrutiny will be much lower if she is from an allied country.
