17. You are a network technician assigned to troubleshoot problems with your company's enterprise network Windows 2000 environment. You have just been informed that a user's computer running Windows XP Professional has crashed. Upon inspection you notice that this computer will begin to load but the GUI no longer will come up. It will not load past the POST. What utility can you use to retrieve the files off this computer before the hard drive is formatted and a new image put back on?

a. ScanDisk
b. Disk Manager
c. Device Manager
d. Last Known Good Configuration
e. Recovery Console
f. Safe Mode

The answer was Recovery console - but the default behavior of the recovery console is to not allow you to copy data off onto removable media

Also by saying it will not load past the POST (indicating a problem with the POST) this would mean it was a more serious problem - if it can't get past the POST it’s not going to boot from a CD to use the recovery console – is this a badly worded / thought out question or is this what to expect in the exam?

    29. You are the domain administrator at a large company. Your company uses a custom directory application for contact information. You want this application to be automatically installed when users from the Sales department log on to a computer. Which of the following should you do?

    a. Assign the package to the computer accounts of the users in the Sales department.
    b. Publish the package to the computer accounts of the users in the Sales department.
    c. Assign the package to the user accounts of the users in the Sales department.
    d. Publish the package to the user accounts of the users in the Sales department.

Answer(s): c. Assign the package to the user accounts of the users in the Sales department.

    Explanation:
When you assign the package to a user account, it will be installed when the user logs on regardless of which computer the user logs on to. Publishing the package would make it available for installation thru the Add/Remove Programs wizard, but would not install it automatically when the user logs on.

the explanation is wrong - it will not install when they log on - it only puts a link in the start menu - it will install on first use.

    17. doesn't mention whether it's using default settings or not. neither does it mention what it is backing up to. so it could very well be backing up to a second hard disk in the computer.

    29. you're right.

17 True - i'm just trying to get my head around the way some of the questions are worded -- some of them don't seem to give enough info.

For me if it does not mention a setting i am going to assume it is set to its default value.

it can't get past the POST it’s not going to boot from a CD to use the recovery console
That's not a given "It will not load past the POST." can mean it will complete the POST, but won't boot from the hard disk for example. q.17 is basically a matter of eliminating incorrect answers. And yes, you will get questions were none, or multiple answers will seem to be correct and you'll have to pick the least incorrect, which actually under the circumstances 'is' the correct answer.

    As for Q 29.:
    Microsoft wrote:
If you assign the program to a user, it is installed when the user logs on to the computer. When the user first runs the program, the installation is finalized.

about q#29, when you assign an app to a user(s), you can choose to make it install (fully) at logon.
so the explanation is potentially correct, though it could use some clarification.
