Safari Books 50% off "For Life"

DoubleNNsDoubleNNs Member Posts: 2,015 ■■■■■□□□□□
For today only, O'Reilly is offering Safari at 50% off for life. Seems like you can also "upgrade" existing accounts to the new pricing. This puts Safari at $199 a year -- effectively ~$17 / month.

I'm gonna get my subscription later today.

Edit: Looks like they might have extended the deal until August 8th.

Since O'Rielly/Safari books are generally in the $25.00 range on Amazon you only need 8 to break even on that mark. Add on the tutorials, video goodies and free upgrades, not entire sure how they plan or if they plan to upgrade paper books, the plan looks very worthwhile if you take advantage of the offer.

Since its payday I "mull" it over til this idea drives me nuts enough to pull the trigger.

Thanks for the tip! Mean that. icon_cheers.gif

What exactly is Safari? From the website it looks like programming knowledge. Is that all?

I have access to it through work - it's well worth it, imo. It will easily pay for itself if you buy technical books, and even if you don't buy them there is access to a lot of information.

    Nice find!

I just signed up for the offer... I dont see how this is not a good value. I've been using their service on and off for about a year and I always recommend it. If you have the opportunity to subscribe, it's a good investment in your self.

The only reason why I'm somewhat torn is that I like to print my books and read them as little packets. I don't like to read hard/softcover books nor do I like to read on a screen for any extended amount of time.

At the price, I'll have to try it out tho. And if after a year, I truly can't stand to read on a screen, I'll cancel.

Just subscribed! It's really a steal and a no brainer. As mentioned at $17/mo and less than half the yearly price, it's just a great value. I too prefer paper but I have a habit of buying both soft and hard copies of some text, so this negates me having to spend on soft copies.
