Lab Question

I'm setting up an ESX lab.
Currently I have 2 X HP ProLiant DL385 G7 with 128GB ram and I'm using a Synology DS416 Slim with WD Black 7200 RPM with 32MB cache.
As soon as I fire up a couple VM's the volume utilization spikes up to 100% and the VM's become pretty much unresponsive.
I'm using NFS.
From your experience is this NAS so suited for a ESXi environment?

Lexluethar Member Posts: 516What is your switch / network speed? You are probably running into a latency issue. While DAS absolutely will run faster I too for my lab had a NAS running NFS for two VMs so that i could practice failovers and vmotion.
My suggestion would be to just use the NAS for testing those HA options and vmotion. If you have to use the NAS for all of your VMs you want to make sure you are running a fast network, 1GB is required for vMotion anyways but 10GB you will get better results. -

Port channel on the 2 NICS from the NAS. -
Lexluethar Member Posts: 516That should work then, do you have local storage to do a test VM? Would only need like 30gb to install an os.
