If I don't go dumb and forget the answer I have a hard time with whether to give a simple answer like above or to go deep.

I wouldn't have laughed if I was interviewing you and you said "it routes traffic". That is correct, it's just vague. I would just say, "That's correct, but can you elaborate more? Why would I put a router onto my network?"

You know, my gut kept telling me to study but I kept ignoring it because I didn't think I'd get to the 2nd round. I swear, someday I will start trusting my gut!

He was looking for the more detailed answer of "It routes traffic to other networks, internet, segments...etc"

Another is I always call DNS, Domain Name Service, not sure why and wont get out of my head, that has nailed me also
