How did you manage to make it your full-time job? Do you like the work? How important were degrees and/or certs? How do you find clients? What size are your clients?

I know a couple. They all had long careers doing development and infosec before striking out on their own. The key being they already had the management contacts and reputation they needed to form a client-base.
