Moving further into security / resume review

I have been looking to move further into security. Although my title now is a Security Engineer, most of what I do is more of network support with some security aspects. My ultimate end-goal is penetration testing, but I don't believe I am at a point where that is a reasonable next-step for me. I know that I will need more experience before I can wear that hat.
My network theory/knowledge and troubleshooting abilities are solid and I have a decent grasp of security. I know that the areas I need to improve on (mostly system side of thing like Linux, AD, etc) and I am studying independently to try and bridge that gap.
What I think is the most reasonable next step for me is to move to a position similar to a security analyst, transitioning from NOC work to SOC work ( I know I will have to start at Tier 1) , shifting my emphasis from networking focused to be more involved with security (SIEM, Malware, etc)
I'm currently working the ECPPT and hoping to transition into the OSCP shortly after I complete it.
Before I start working towards my next step, I know my resume could use a lot of work. Any advice and pointers, either on the resume or transitioning to security would be greatly appreciated!

The technique you are using to describe the company you worked for is distracting. Managers don't want to wade through words that don't address what you actually did. Instead of "Computer Shop is a small family owned computer repair business." just say "As a PC Technician my responsibilities included..." - nobody is interested what kind of business Computer Shop is in. If you want to qualify your own experience there, you could say "As a PC Technician for a small family-owned computer repair business my responsibilities included..." If you want to communicate your own scope of work there are ways you can do it without making your resume sound like it's describing the entire business. If people are really curious, then it will come up in an interview.
If this shortens your resume - good! It makes it easier for people to get straight to the point and not waste any time. If you feel the need, you can always make it longer by adding additional accomplishments. -

I know that with my limited experience, I definitely want to keep it down to one page. I'm going to reword it and remove the descriptions of the businesses out. -
Mooseboost Member Posts: 778 ■■■■□□□□□□I have it down to a simple version. It looks a lot cleaner with the gumble taken out and fits nicely on one page now.
