Job Dilema - A choice to make
Luis103
To sum it up, I'm 24 years old and a current Systems Engineer for a Health Care Company(1100 employees). I started here about 3 years ago on the Help Desk and was rapidly moved to a JR Engineer position 2 years ago due to work ethic, certifications and a desire to learn.
As a Jr Engineer, I got exposure to various technologies: Exchange, AD, Layer 2 Switching, Comm vault(Backups), LANDesk, VMware, Aerohive, UCS, Netscaler, IronPort, the list goes on and on. As well as being the longest running in my group, so I constantly get asked about how certain things work(applications etc.) After demonstrating the required skill-set, I was promoted recently to a Systems Engineer position.
Here's the actual dilemma, I didn't get the amount I wanted(90-95K) and received about 75K. I was OK with that due to their explanation of not having enough work experience, which is true(about 4 years total IT Experience). But last week I learned my Engineering manager and Enterprise Architect gave their 2 weeks notice. Rumors have been flying that a new investor owns majority of the company and could be coming in the next year and replace us. Upper Management has been denying this but what else are they supposed say? Why would my manager and Architect leave if they enjoyed the place?
In the meantime I've received an offer from an ex manager to work for him. Here's the catch it's about 100K pay, work from home and full benefits. I've heard from old co-workers that's there's lots of cleaning up there to do and its plenty of work. I'll also get some experience in Citrix and learn how to implement it as well. I guess what you could say is, I'm scared of making the change. All I've known or seen in IT is this company and don't know how it works somewhere. Besides the pay, I don't have any complaints on my current job. I guess you could say I'm one of those guys that is scared of "change"

Hey I would find out if the rumors are true and how it affects you. After that if the truth isn't good take the 25k raise and the work from home job....

I would take the opportunity to embrace the change and the challenge, go to the other company where you will learn other stuff, experience a different environment, and on top of that, increase your salary.
Staying at that company, to await the rumors, will just create stress and keep you in your comfort zone needlessly.
