Resume question

I'm sure this has probably been answered before but wasn't quite sure how to search for it.
How should one add things to a resume that they don't do as part of a current/past position? For instance, I'm trying to land a Linux-type role and/or move into something close to DevOps. I've been trying to learn Python and recently started working with Puppet on my own time. How can I show that without lying and saying I'm using it in my current job?
