Server 2012R2 Server Maintenance

To anyone running their infrastructure with Server 2012R2 servers, has this little "improvement" impacted network\server performance? We're thinking of upgrading but during my work with VMs, this feature has killed performance. Yes, I've googled it. More than one article mentions it and a possible hack to get around it. I'll also post this in the general tech forum. Sorry in advance about crossposting.
