Server 2012R2 Server Maintenance

To anyone running their infrastructure with Server 2012R2 servers, has this little "improvement" impacted network\server performance? We're thinking of upgrading but during my work with VMs, this feature has killed performance. Yes, I've googled it. More than one article mentions a possible hack to get around it. Anyone have any positive things to say about this?

We run several 2012 R2 servers and have not had any issues with it in the 2 years I've been here.

I've got around 40 2012 R2 VMs at work, and none of them suffer performance issues due to this.
