Anyone recommend a good place where I can check where a website might bè hosted and also what personal data they might keep

Depends on what you mean by where. If by "where", you mean geographical location, then just geolocate the IP address. Otherwise, if you mean what hosting provider is hosting it, the whois record for the corresponding IP address will usually tell you this.

For what info they keep - read their Privacy Policy or Terms of Use. You'll find most store just about everything they can about you and disclaim any sort of security around your data.
