Cisco Catalyst Switch - Not all keystrokes working using console port?

redgunnerredgunner Member Posts: 42 ■■□□□□□□□□
Hello,

I have Cisco Catalyst Switch and I when I type it doesnt always produce the character I want, about 80% of the time it doesn't work? I have noticed I get this strange message when I try to login via putty?

I have flow control off, I have tried Putty and Xterm but same issue

Has anybody got experience of this issue?

The flow control is not so important (I use XON/XOFF), but make sure that the Baud Rate is 9600 and the you use an 8N1 configuration (that is 8 Data Bits, 1 Stop Bit, No Parity). That should work.

Have you any other equipment that you can test the cable with?

Sorry, that should read "...with which to test the cable."

    Yes,

They work perfectly fine with many other routers or switches

Its possible someone changed the speed on the line in the config. Probably for xmodem or something. I'd try adjusting your local settings until you get clear output.

Yeah, I've had this happen before. Someone has messed with the baud rate. It can take a while to diagnose, but you'll get there eventually. At first I thought the device was bad.
