What could be the cause of my phones not showing up in cdp on my routers but they do on my switch?

I have three routers all connected into one switch (with vlans trunked to the switch) and six phones in three separate vlans off of that switch

I could be wrong, but my understanding is the show cdp neighbors [detail] command will show only 'directly connected' devices.

Edit to add...

Via my LAB, I've discovered (on my R2620) that if a Routing protocol has not been configured, the CDP commands will not show any connected devices, so output from the command will be blank.
