The adapter itself, or the module? The adapter lets you install an older NM module into a newer SM slot (only works with some modules).

The EVM-HD allows you to install a bunch of analog lines (FXO and or FXS) determined by the daughter cards installed. The connection is an old school 25-pair amphenol connector which can easily be connected to a 66 style phone punch-down block.
