I was contacted by a recruiter regarding a direct hire for a company and was wondering if it was normal for a company to hold a position 7 months down the line.
I was told to send in my resume to the recruiter and he explained how they have openings and could potentially work out something for when I get out.
Much appreciated!

The recruiter is being speculative as in the current job market, 7 months away is an incredibly long time and the probability is that things will change between now and then.
If the position is of interest and you are not planning any job changes between now and then, why not drop them your CV and see what happens - it is unlikely to work out this far ahead given how fast companies change their plans, but what's the worst that can happen?
Certainly I would not make any plans around it.
