Keepalives packet are they only for routers

I been doing some searching for keepalive for cisco devices and found it mostly for routers. I thought that if a switch had a keepalive it would not need broadcast to find client on the different ports.

Interesting thought. If the switch did use something like keepalives to detect clients, there would still need to be some mechanism to tell other switches in the same boardcast domain.
