Wireshark strange problem
BarrIER
Hi guys,
I can't seem to find a solution to this one. Maybe someone here has come across it.
My OS is Ubuntu(lastest updates installed). I'm using an Atheros USB wireless adapter. When I start a caputure on monitor mode after a few seconds I get an error message saying the interface that the capture is running on has gone down. After this my connection to the wifi network disconnects and reconnects several times. The wireshark application hangs. I'm forced to log out and back in again to recover from this.
I also tried my onboard wireless card. Exactly the same thing!!!
Has anybody got any ideas at all what I can try!!

Did you put your wireless card in to monitor mode first? airmon-ng start wlan0(or other interface). It should create a new interface, or rename the existing one. You'll see either mon0 or wlan0mon, use this to capture. Also, I highly recommend capturing in airodump, then reading the captures with Wireshark. Working on an open wireless network?
