SANS Certification Renewals

I just got a renewal notice today and it appears the books are automatically included along with the increase in price to $429. Below is the email I received.

Your GSEC certification expires in 2 years!

You have plenty of time to earn the 36 Continuing Professional Education
credits (CPEs) required to renew your certification. Our *NEW* Certification
Renewal interface may already have CPEs tracked for you, if you have completed
SANS or GIAC activities. Log into your account today! (Log in:
https://www.giac.org/cert-history)

All renewal activities must be completed before your certification
expires.Renewing your GIAC certification is $429.00. You do not need to pay
this before accruing CPEs, but payment must be submitted before your
certification's expiration date.

Program details, including the activities that can be used for CPE credits can
be found here: http://www.giac.org/certifications/renewal

Included in the certification renewal fee is an updated set of course books,
audio files, and any added content such as DVDs or USBs. Any additional
hardware, such as F- Response and the Windows License, is not included.

You will be responsible for additional payment for shipping. If you would not
like to receive the course material, please uncheck the ‘Include Books’
box on your renewal registration.

Did you challenge the exam or take the class though? It’s 100% if you take the class you can get the new books but it’s unclear if you challenge the exam.
