scaredoftests Mod Posts: 2,780 ModWay too busy (I mean the format). It seems like one run on sentence. Take out personality/Take out the boxes (who cares if you are married or have a driver's license?). Separate your experience with actual jobs. Move education at the end and take out 'type of education' /Take out Dutch language. That is what stands out to me right now.Never let your fear decide your fate....

Nisseki Member Posts: 160I agree with scaredoftests, I think there's too much unnecessary information.
I don't think you need to list how many years of experience next to each skill.
Also take out certifications you don't have and if your SC has expired there's no point having it on your CV.
In the UK, I think most people state they have a drivers license and if you have no penalty points, add /Clean. -

Resumes are ART.
It all comes down to personal preference.
(I suspect that Local Region/culture plays a role in what's preferred)
Drivers License; maybe that is it relevant.
Dutch language; maybe that is relevant too.
With that being said, i agree with scaredy.
I see Too many words. Too much blah blah. Everything just runs on & on & on.
Is this a Resume, or a Job Application?
My brain hurts, and ive decided that i dont want to read anymore.
(NOT the response you want to invoke)
What exactly is your goal here?
If you are simply trying to document every single thing you've ever done....
then SUCCESS!
But if you are trying to land a job in 2017... then you need a rewrite.
First, identify what kind of position you are trying to land.
Then, cut your resume down to 2-pages; that will force you to include ONLY whats relevant.
Carefully add to it from there.
One last thing,
Netware 4 Life!!

ITSec14 Member Posts: 398 ■■■□□□□□□□I helped do a lot of resume reviews for fellow classmates in college and many friends, but I'm not sure if I can really offer any advice here since you live in the UK. Here in the US, our standards are probably a lot different.
If this is the type of format that is common in the UK, then I think it looks fine. You could and should probably condense some of the content though as I don't know any HR people who would want to read so much.
Sorry I can't be more help. -

MontagueVandervort Member Posts: 399 ■■■■■□□□□□I have a bit of experience in resume reviews and fixes, but I didn't touch this because it was UK. I apparently also didn't scroll down the other day when I first looked at this.
Irregardless of the culture, I can't imagine anyone would be able to read that huge block of text without some spacing. Get some spacing in there! -

If I read this far into your resume, I would be slitting my wrist right about now. WAY too much info.
Company name, Job Title, employment dates, two or three lines description of job functions. Leave off everything else. **** ton of misspellings, maybe UK English is different than American English, but is defence suppose to be defense? There should be zero spelling errors on your resume.
Puple Matrix, Helpdesk Supervisor,
October 2014 - February 2015, Puple Matrix Helpdesk supervisor
Responsible for managing 8 engineers providing a wide range of IT services to various schools in the London area. Which included installing, upgrading and servicing servers, network support, access points, Anti-virus and patching.
You can embellish on this a little, but 3 sentences at the most. There a Purple Matrix Ltd, in London, are you sure you even spelled the company name correctly?
My recommendation is to use a resume writing service, you haven't clue what your doing.
Still searching for the corner in a round room. -
Whistlestop Member Posts: 20 ■□□□□□□□□□Techgromit, didn't you know that British and Americans spell certain words differently. Let me educate you
colour (British) versus color (your colonial and barbaric way of spelling it. Just kidding of course!)
Licence (British spelling) versus License (American)
Defence (British) versus defense
I'm amazed that you don't know this. I probably know more about your country than you do. If you look far back enough you will realize that the first British Puritan settlers arrived in the likes of Boston sometime in the early 1600s. I'm sure you have heard of the "Mayflower" which left Southampton Docks (England) and took the passengers first to Holland and then onto America. Shortly after this Jamestown (Virginia) was created. Named of course after James I
Ever heard of the first thanksgiving? This is what led to your bloody war with the native population or at least that is what history records.
You do know that prior to the revolution, you had 13 colonies? -
TechGromit Member Posts: 2,156 ■■■■■■■■■□No, I didn't know the British spelled differently. And thanks for the history lesson, perhaps you have a future as a history teacher. As for your resume it's a complete disaster, I highly recommend you get a resume writing service to write it for you.Still searching for the corner in a round room.

The Mayflower was full of illegals. They were rapists and criminals!! And some, I assume, were good people.
lol
just kidding :]
(Besides... we all know that it was the Santa MArina, Nina, and Pinta with all the original rapists & criminals.)Whistlestop wrote: »I'm amazed that you don't know this. I probably know more about your country than you do. -

Judging by racoleman's website although he has not been a History teacher he has managed to be a policeman and deepsea diver. I've never read such a colourfully created website until now. I would suggest to the OP that he remove the picture from the website and delete the information about his work history from the 1980s including his antiquated certifications which might give any future employer the wrong end of the stick. Just my opinion but it is currently working for you then carry on with itI'm an Xpert at nothing apart from remembering useless information that nobody else cares about. -

One BIG recommendation is sticking to facts, not personality or warm fuzzies. Or as our good friend Joe Friday says:
The good news is that this can be cleaned up a lot but the bad news is there is a lot to clean up.
Also, I wouldn't recommend giving a history lesson to people that have good intentions and are just trying to help. Techgromit might not have known about the spelling differences but he doesn't live in the UK and his comments weren't out of any ill will. He might have some good advice for you but if it were me, I wouldn't want to give it after that reaction.
My 2 cents at least.
Check out enhancv.com. I've been playing around with that service lately for cleaning up friend's resumes. Like one poster said: it's an art. I like the templates they have there
