DevOps Engineer, Whats that ?!?!
egrizzly
Has anybody ever worked as a DevOps Network Engineer? I interviewed with AT&T today for it. How in-depth does the position go into programming/app development versus actual networking? Can somebody share their experience if they've worked directly using this role, or if they've managed a team of DevOps Network Engineers ?

Mostly centers around developing tools for automating network operations. For example all those manual changes that AT&T does a million times a day to provision customers? Build a solution. It doesn't necessarily need to be programmed from the ground up. Toolkits exist today to take advantage of like Puppet, Ansible etc. Scripting is much more popular in this area than actual ground up programming.

indicated - it's a lot of scripting but more sophisticated orgs may develop their own tools. Devops in support of tech companies usually also may need to understand common stacks used in Azure or AWS. Db setup could include Elasticseach, Mongo, Postgres, MySQL, etc. Linux is very popular as well.
IMO - a good devops engineer tends to have very broad IT infrastructure knowledge.

Devops ~ automation. Whether it be servers, routers, switches, etc.
Am on DevOps team, do know what I am talking about.
