in CCNA & CCENT
Hey guys, I'm currently studying for my CCNA and I don't fully comprehending the WAN section. I'm currently using CCNA Routing and Switching 200-125 Official Cert Guide by Wendell Odom. I'll like to provide a brief overview of my understandings and will appreciate any feedback to fill in the gaps I'm missing.
HDLC/PPP are layer 2 protocols and are only used with Leased Lines.
- Are Leased Lines still popular in today? I tried a internet search for service providers but it did not yield any results in my area.
eBPG - Is a layer 3 routing protocol between Customer/ISPs with different ASN.
MetroE and MPLS are Private WAN services provided by a service provider.
- What physical media is used with MPLS (Ethernet?)?
GRE and PPPoe uses tunnels with encryption technology to keep the traffic secure over the Public WAN services.
Thanks!

networker050184 Mod Posts: 11,962 ModPretty much everything these days is going to be handed off via ethernet to the customer whether it's internet or MPLS. You'll still see some T1 stuff around using PPP, but not many people still buying that at this point. An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made.
