The data link layer has two sub-layers called the Link Layer Control (LLC) and Media Access Control (MAC). LLC is the upper of the two sublayers and provides reliability and flow-control between the data link and network layers of the OSI. SNAP is the subnetwork access protocol which is a header that's used when the LLC carriers packets and also supports vendor private protocol identifiers.
