Is SP a good path? Will it be good going forward with all the automation, sdn etc.?

    Depends. If you work in the SP side of things it's a great cert to have. Everyone in every facet of networking would be wise to learn some automation and scripting skills through in my opinion.
    An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made.
