I am looking for a Linux Role in Atlanta (or TX)
Hey guys. I'm thinking of moving before the end of the year. I've got my sights set on Atlanta, GA. However, I'm also considering (to a much lesser extent) Houston/Dallas/Austin, TX and the Bay area in California.
I'm currently a Linux Systems Admin. Skill set mostly consists of Linux, AWS, Python/Bash scripting, Configuration Management (Ansible/SaltStack) and Systems Monitoring (Sensu/Icinga2Nagios/Prometheus etc). I have Docker knowledge and am excited to get some hands on k8s experience, tho I can't consider containers or micro services as part of my current skill set, yet. I have an expired CCNA, so I have strong networking fundamentals, even tho it's not my focus.
I'm looking for a mid-level DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering role, or at least another Sys Admin role that is closely aligned with my skill set. I'm mostly looking for a company that I can learn and grow within, with less of a focus on salary. In fact, I'm considering taking a pay cut if I can land a role I can grow quickly within.
I've contacted a few recruiters last week that I plan to work with and have responded to a few solicitations for interviews on LinkedIn. However, most of the roles I've looked at seem to be slightly above my current skill level - either "mid" level at the big 4 tech companies that I'm intimidated by at the moment, or senior level roles where the company wants a Superman to come in and know everything, off-head, from day 1, probably to put out a bunch of burning tire fires of tech debt. Unfortunately, although I'm confident in my ability to quickly, efficiently, and correctly figure out and solve problems, I am aware of the depth of (or lack thereof) my experience and realize that I'm no Superman, or Senior level engineer. Not yet, at least.
I'll continue my search and working with the recruiters I've contacted, but I thought it might be a good idea to reach out here to see what you all had to say.
Any leads to pursue or even advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
