Validation of Windows XP

I formated my dad's computer today and reinstalled windows XP, then I tried to do the windows updates and it said it needed to validate it to make sure it wasn't pirated software? then its dumb automated validation was unable to run. What do I do to get it validated so I can get the windows updates?

    Make sure you have the correct time on the PC. If it's off by too much it won't validate.
