Sometimes you never hear back. Depends on the company. I had an interview not long ago and hit on all cylinders--until they found someone with devops experience. I found out from a friend that worked there. Never heard back from either the recruiter or the company.

Sometimes you never hear back nor should you really wait for them. Some will email you or even strangely call you if they have rejected you. Always apply to as many jobs as you can.
