im a junior at a University and will be taking UNIX operating systems next semester and was wondering if i needed any skills under my belt before i take the class. Im not fond of writing code, i actually suck at it, dont know what im doing most of the time, i have 1 c++ course under my belt, but i was wondering if i should be ok with an intro to UNIX course, or if there is anything i could practice over the summer that would help me out.

Not really. It's an OS. It's like asking if you need to know C# before learning how to use Windows.

You'll probably learn the basics of Bash in the class too.

Look at your specific course curriculum. I took a similar course at Unix in the last decade, and it was purely compiling C/C++ code under Unix, so it was more a programming (very entry level) than OS administration.

It really depends on the University, some universities that Unix OS course can be just theoretical OS design..
