Go for VCAP6 or wait?

Hi,

I have the VCP6.5 but my renewal will be coming up late next year 2019. Not sure if there would be any benefit to getting the VCAP 6 at this point or wait until they release VCAP 7.

Would the VCAP6 keep me updated since I already have the 6.5?

VCAP 6.0 exams are being retired soon and replaced with 6.5 or 7.0.

@Dave: Do you mean along the lines of - if you have a VCP6 you can get the VCAP7, etc?


@JohnJones: Do you have a preference for which VCAP, Deploy or Design? If you're heading the design route, do the VCAP 6.5 as it does not have Visio style anymore.

@kj0 - No. Say you have VCAP5, took and passed VCAP6. You no longer get the VCP6.

So...if I'm VCP6.5, then take VCAP 7, I'd still lose my VCP6.5 once it expires?

The only reason for going down the VCAP track would be if you were going to pursue the VCIX?

No, gaining a VCAP recertifies all your non-expired VCPs.

But, you need to have the VCP in the same version to get a VCAP anyway.

So, with your VCP6.5-DCV, you would be able to get either the VCAP6.5-DCV Design or VCAP6.5-DCV Deployment. To get a VCAP7, you’d need the corresponding VCP7 first.

No. You could have a previous VCAP.

True - the paths do depend on whether you're already only at VCP or already at VCAP level.
