Will I have to know which applications use what encryption?
As I am approaching the end of my studying, I would like to confirm something that is worrying me. On top of knowing which algorithms are symmetric/asymmetric, and how each type functions, do you believe I will have to know which programs/protocols use what encryption? For example, will there be a question similar to: "What types of encryption are available with PGP?" I am pretty sure there will be, but would like to confirm.

From my studies it seems you do not have to know the applications or even the math behind the encryption.
