University / Government funded jobs

Well I graduated in May and have been doing the job search diligently for the last few months. Although i live in a small (60k) but prospering town the need for IT personnel is low. There are businesses, factories, schools that need work but they are all occupied at the momment. However a position at the university that i graduated from has an opening for a Computer support Specialist I. Although i understand that the pay is not the best in the world, i do have loans coming and anything tech related is advancement for me at the moment.

Now that the scene has been set; on to the questions/comments.

What is everyones experience with gov funded jobs?
How was the interviewing process? Are there any reoccuring themes in this type of interview? Any key questions that you seem to experience over and over?
When creating my resume for this job is there anything specific that they love to see? What type of image should i show?

Anyone that has interviewed, worked, or does work in this type of environment i would greatly appreciate your input.

On a side note in 2 weeks....i conquer the *beast 291 and then on to CEH

Gov job are based on a point system and qualifications are listed in the OPM.
But there are exceptions to the rules and each interviewer is different.
