Danman32 Member Posts: 1,243I have a few issues with that article. They are comparing apples to orange trees. Sure, the transistor can switch on and off at 500GHz, but how fast can the transistors used in the CIRCUITS they are comparing it to go?
Silicone laced germanium huh? I thought they did away with germanium transistors because they were too slow. Though they did have lower junction voltage drops. .2V compared to .7V in silicone NP junctions if I recall.
I've wondered for years on how many molecules it takes to make a functional transistor. Knowing this answer would tell one the absolute density a chip could achieve.
