Calculating Subnets

Is it necessary to understand how to calculate subnets for the Network+ exam? Am I likely to get a question or two where I have to calculate a subnet?

I did not get any subnet calculation on my exam. But never hurt to learn and understand, especially if you plan to take CCNA later on.

You only need to know if it falls into class a, b, or c. know the class ranges and you will be ok.

No, the Network+ exam objectives clearly state understand the purpose of subnetting. If you read the Subnet Masks section in my TCP/IP TechNotes, you will have that covered:
