Just wondering if anyone here created an online training course or thought about creating one
what platforms did you use? what was your workflow like from scripting to recording to editing, etc?
Keen to hear experience because I'm thinking of creating some courses

JDMurray Admin Posts: 13,090 AdminIs the format of these course(s) to be like an online university course or are you thinking more of what's offered by Plualsight/Udemy/Cybrary?Coincidentally, I'm starting an adjunct professorship (i.e., part-time job) teaching IT and cybersecurity courses on-campus at a local university. I'm looking at making/updating a series of courses based on the objectives of the CompTIA CySA+ (CS0-003) cert. I started getting ideas for the form and content of such courses by asking GPT-4 to create syllabi, lesson plans, FAQs, labs, etc. based on the older CS0-002 CySA+ cert. (GPT-4 is only aware of information published since September 2021; the CS0-003 CySA+ version was released in 2023.) Although GPT did not create a ready-to-use product, it certainly produced excellent groundwork to polish and give me additional ideas for such courses. You can also take an alternate approach and ask GPT how to create online training courses for specific subjects and in a particular style you want. (Example: "Create an online course to teach a basic Linux course in the style of Carnegie Mellon University.") You then mine additional info about course authoring from GPT by varying/refining the wordage in your prompts to GPT. (Example: "How do I teach this course using the 'flipped classroom' methodology?")You'll soon realize that you need to study up on how to write better prompts for GPT. You will also need to teach it to your students just like we instruct on how to better use an online search engine.

UnixGuy Mod Posts: 4,570 ModInteresting take! I must admit I haven't been using chatgpt or any AI for that matter.
I want to create the courses in a Udemy/pluralsight style, but it's going to be me breaking down topics, using my personal style and approach, I'll have slides ,etc. I'm thinking of hosting on something like Teachable for example.
So in this case, ChatGPT can help me with the layout? The layout is actually the easy part thought (I have an idea what I want to teach).
I think I'll just put my head down in September/October/November and just do it.
It's exciting that you're starting teaching a part-time course, the student will appreciate your real world experience! Wish I had lecturers who had industry experience back then... -
JDMurray Admin Posts: 13,090 AdminGPT will give you ideas for topics, and ways of presenting topis, that you may not have considered. If you use courses at Udemy, Pluralsight, et al you'll get the feel of their format and rules for presentation, such as: A module contains one or more videos that are no more than five minutes in length each; slides are simple in content and not shown for more than 30 seconds; animations are good if they provide knowledge and are not just used for distraction, etc.

JDMurray Admin Posts: 13,090 AdminI made three courses for Pluralsight. I used PowerPoint for the slides and Camtasia Studio Pro to make the recording. I did write "skills check" questions to test viewer's knowledge and understanding of the material. I also provided a full text transcript taken from the script I wrote to make the recording.

Hoping to make a dry topic into something interesting, digestable, and take it all the way from beginner to intermediate/advanced -
