Another Revocation: Do I Need Retake the Exam or Do I Need an IAPP Cert

I know this is rather a personal question than a common one, but I need some advice.

I've passed the cipp/e and cipm about two years ago. But I just found them revoked by iapp two months ago for failure to summit sufficient CPE credits and pay the maintenance fee. It's fair since I didn't check my email often. However, I'm wondering, do I really need this cert since I don't even check iapp website that often. It seems unnecessary to retake this exam and consistently invest time and money into these certs because it doesn't seem to help in getting a better job or improving professional skills. I have been working as a legal counsel in a privacy protection department for over seven years. It looks like the only benefit turns out to be maintaining a sense of English for I'm not an English speaker.

Thank you so much for leaving your thoughts:
- Why do you take the exam?
- How do you think the iapp cert has helped you?
- Is the iapp cert highly recognized in your country?

The question is: Does you current employer, or future employers, care that you have not renewed these certification?
Most employers only care that you have achieve a certification at one time (or simply passed the certification exam) and not that you are providing due care in renewing the cert every N years. Other people in your profession can say if these certs when renewed are regarded to be more valued than these certs when expired.

Can't say I've ever worked with anyone with the IAPP in the US or Asia.
