Weird License Problem

I am troubleshooting an issue for a small company that is operating a Terminal Server on Windows Server 2003. This is the only server this business has so it is also the Site License Server.

Today is the second time in the last 2 months that the users were suddenly unable to access resources on this server. For some reason the Purchase History is being deleted from the Server. After I re-enter the purchase history and reassign the license to the group then everything is fine.

I have gone through the event logs and found were it first started getting errors but do not see anything else in the logs that seems to have caused this. Just curious as to if anyone else has seen anything like this.

Do any of these errors look like what you are seeing?

The only error referencing the licenses is event id 202 which basically says that the server is out of licenses.

    This is just crazy....

Sorry, all I've got is more links that may or may not be helpful.

Oh, and one more comment - this server was not originally built with an eval copy and upgraded was it? Or booted from a floppy set created from an eval version of server 2003?

Perhaps try rebuilding the license database from scratch. You'll probably need to call in to reactivate the server though.

    It wasn't.

I am not going to spend much more time on it...... if I can't find it then I will just reimage it and move on. I would just like to know what is causing it.

But that is what is being deleted. So I have rebuilt it twice now.

No, the entire database, not just its contents.

I see what you are saying Sorry, maybe I should have been more specific and makes this even more weird. The Terminal Services CAL are fine. It is only the plain ole CAL that are being deleted.

Ah, in that case turn off license logging. It has always been a problem.
