Spanning tree inside........

hi there im strugglin a bit with one last topic. Spanning tree. I understand the election of route bridge and non route bridges having a root port that forwards cos it recieves lowest cost bpdu from root but i dont get the rest such as designated bridge. Can anyone help me out with the last piece of the puzzle. Ive read this alot but this is one topic i dont get that well.

    GENERALLY SPEAKING: the root port of one switch is connected to the designated port of a switch that is closer to the root bridge.
    and that is the reason why a root bridge does not have a single root port all it has is designated ports.
