4000series Upgrades...

Whats the deal with the 4000 series switches. They come with a version of the CatOS default, but can be upgraded to run IOS, correct? On the BCMSN is knowing all of the "set etc..." type commands for the CatOS required, or do I just need to know the regular IOS commands? Thanks
