docking stations, help

I'm not that familiar with docking stations. I have a basic idea, but not sure about problems and troubleshooting associated with them. Any help/detail would be appreciate, I did google it and got basic info, but was wondering if someone could provide some feedback.

Any particular problem that you are having with one?

Generally speaking they are just a hotplug I/O interface for laptops that usually offer more ports. You would troubleshoot the USB, NIC etc.. just as you would on any other laptop. If none of the ports are working on the docking station but the laptop operates/test good then it would be pretty safe to assume that the docking station itself has failed.
