I was having a discussion with a friend yesterday, and he tells me more or less the following:
anything that can be encrypted, can also be decrypted.
I somewhat disagree, because the decrypting process may take so long that it's basically not doable. He mentions that with hash functions, you can always come up with a return function that will decrypt information.
Is this true? My understanding of hash is that they are functions which are not 1-1, and it's impossible to know the transverse domain.
I know that this might be a vague topic, but with Computer Security in general, is this the correct (factual) mentality that any sort of prevention can be countered?
