Is there any freeware that you can suggest i can use to encrypt my files on my external hard drive right now its FAT32 partition i just dont want to convert it to NTFS.

What i wanted to do is everytime i access the external hard drive i like it to prompt a password for security or i can enable or disable the security.

thanks

But if im gonna zip them I will need to do it for every particular folder and zip file has limited capacity.

Is there any thing that I can just run on the external hard drive that can encrypt everything at the same time?

My external hard drive is 250GB

Pretty Good Privacy will do it. It has been the standard for years It went commercial after version 6.5 but that version should keep even governments from peeking for a while. The all inclusive version for encrypting a partition is here.

How is TrueCrypt? I've always heard good things about using it.

TrueCrypt is the disk-encryption and hidden partition software that all the leading security professionals rave about. It works on FAT32 partitions, is free, open-source, and the complete C source code is public.
